Linux Mint is free of charge (thanks to your donations and adverts on the website) and we hope you'll enjoy it. Some of the packages we distribute are under the GPL. If you want to access their source code you can use the apt-get source command. Please note that Windows 10 S does not support running this app. To launch, use 'ubuntu' on the command-line prompt (cmd.exe), or click on the Ubuntu tile in the Start Menu. To use this feature, one first needs to use 'Turn Windows features on or off' and select 'Windows Subsystem for Linux', click OK, reboot, and use this app. Links to popular distribution download pages. Below you'll find links that lead directly to the download page of 25 popular Linux distributions. It is possible to upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to Ubuntu 16.10. Users running a Ubuntu older version such as 15.10 will first have to upgrade to 16.04 before upgrading to 16.10. Make sure you have updated your system before performing the upgrade. Importantly, it is recommended for users to read the release notes before upgrading.
Select an image
Ubuntu is distributed on two types of images described below.
Desktop image
The desktop image allows you to try Ubuntu without changing your computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later. Xbox streaming apk. This type of image is what most people will want to use. You will need at least 384MiB of RAM to install from this image.
There are two images available, each for a different type of computer:
- 64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop image
- Choose this to take full advantage of computers based on the AMD64 or EM64T architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2). If you have a non-64-bit processor made by AMD, or if you need full support for 32-bit code, use the i386 images instead. Choose this if you are at all unsure.
- 32-bit PC (i386) desktop image
- For almost all PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors and almost all computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors.
Server install image
Final cut vs premiere. The server install image allows you to install Ubuntu permanently on a computer for use as a server. It will not install a graphical user interface.

Choosing the right version:
- 64-bit version suitable for PCs with Intel or AMD chip.
- 32-bit version, for most PCs older than 2007.
- PowerPC version for Apple Macintosh G3/G4/G5 and IBM OpenPower, please choose Long Term Support (LTS) version below.
- Mac64 version for Intel Macs, 2006 and beyond, please use the 64-bit version.
- For low-RAM (less than 700 MB) PCs use the Alternate versions with a smaller set of applications.
This image was created using the Ubuntu Pi Flavour Maker. For the Raspberry Pi 2 the microSDHC I/O throughput is a bottleneck. Recommended: Use a Class 6 or Class 10 microSDHC card. More information here.
